Pistol Pete’s food and blues, Geelong Australia.
How is it that some small music venues become iconic?
There’s a bunch of reasons, some of which I can list here but there is also that ‘anti’ star quality; that thing beneath the surface that’s inexplicable, the magic, a glow deep in the heart of the place rather that the brightly burning star. There came to be a sense of permanence; a place you can rely on at Pistol Pete’s. Pete was always hospitable to patrons and performers; the staff were accommodating; the food was always tasty. It may not be the healthiest food, but hell it tasted good!
There was a culture of well-being. The people that came were friendly and shared a passion for the music and the food. The décor had character, with artefacts to contemplate while imbibing your favourite beverage.
A combination of all the above transported you to different world where you forgot your troubles and immersed yourself in the experience.
I loved playing at Pistol Pete’s Food ‘n’ Blues, and on June 29, 2024 I will perform there for the last time. After 10 years Pete can no longer justify keeping the doors open. So sad, and yet I am eternally grateful for all the great shows I have played there and the many I have seen and heard there.
On June 29, 2024 many local musicians will gather for the last performance, share stories and sing and play our hearts out in thanks to Pete and Kerri Raimondo for giving us the opportunity for so many performances. Thanks Pete, you will be greatly missed.
